Expand search of contacts

One can filter Contacts using the content of text fields in a contact, but cannot filter by a phone # or part of a phone #. It has happened to me on quite a few occasions that I have a visitor phone # but the name does not match an existing contact. Would love to be able to filter by the phone #, or part of it, dropping all non-numeric characters (parens, dashes, spaces, periods, etc.) before trying to match the phone # or part of phone #.

David B. Alexander in Contacts table you can filter by custom fields and whatever you use should be able to find partial matches. For example, using the filter for Phone Number custom field, and using part of the number, should return the contacts with a number that contains the given numbers.

Angel Orozco Yes, that is correct. However, if you look at name search, you can search for part of a name in the Filter box. But if you put part of a phone #, it does not work. So there is a lack of consistency.
In other words, you are correct, but as I see it are not 100% correct, since the same search that works in the Filter dropdown dialogue should also work in the Filter box.

I have to ask: Is there something that only by using the Search bar instead of the filters would allow you to achieve?
I agree that using the search bar should work similarly to filters and should return partial matches for those custom fields, but my question is to see if we could focus our resources on implementing or updating features that would really allow us all to have new or different results, and implement or update this later.

Angel Orozco I think people are confused by the inconsistency. You can see comments here, and others are also probably not aware that the search box operates differently from the filters.
I guess it is up to Simplero to weigh the programming time needed to change this vs. the impact that the different behaviors has.

Angel Orozco I think that's it yeah. That might work. I was just expecting to be able to do a general search with out picking custom fields for it.

Cant tell you how important is it for me and me employee to search for firstname, lastname, organization name - or part of them. Hoping to see this work soon.

I would love to be able to search for email addresses that include "mail.ru" to delete them!

This is really important for me too.
Actually Simplero used to allow me to search for part of an email adress or the contact name - now it seems I can only search for the full and correct email adress.
Really need to be able to search for "omsaet" instead of "bsc@omsaet.dk"

I'm taking a look at this request and trying to understand better what you'd like to achieve.
For example, you could Filter by Email > contains > "omsaet" and you should be able to find those contacts. Did you try that?
